For this lesson study we decided on the following research question:
How can we increase students' development of academic language and use of rhetorical methods to be more confident and share out their activist passions?
Theory of Action goal:
Content & Equity goals:
Content Goal: Students will use their knowledge of persuasive language to understand the three elements of effective rhetoric to become a more effective speakers & writer and act as passionate community members. (Ethos, Logos, Pathos) Equity Goal: Rhetoric examples will be accessible through Google classroom, various modalities of rhetoric will be in place in the opening, middle, and end of the lesson to solidify the understanding and implementation. Access to this language allows students to describe a concept that is intuitive to them already, allowing for accommodation of these concepts in the world around them.
Focus Student Strengths & Needs:
Focus Student #1 Their thinking is extraordinary as they works well individually and in small groups of 2-3 people. FS#1 always has a smile on their face and in a positive mood, will stand up for other students in the class if they feel that someone is being disrespected. FS#1 messages me in private but needs a little extra confidence boost when it comes to sharing out loud. Goal for focal student: build enough confidence to share their thinking with the whole classroom.
